Mistletoe Munnar is a boutique, premium home stay having five well furnished double rooms with private balcony and one spacious Family / Honeymoon suite; overlooking the magnificent Chokkanmudi peaks, Letchmi hills and Kanan Devan plantations of Munnar. Mistletoe Home features a traditional wood fired clay oven bakery, a cute café and art gallery, small library, a unisex ayurveda spa room and plenty of warmth and care from a typical Kerala Syrian Christian family who resides in the same premises and takes care of the services and food preparation..
The Promoter of Baker’s Villa Munnar, Joe belongs to the third generation of the migrants who have moved from the Central Kerala district of Kottayam (Erstwhile Travancore kingdom) in the early 1930s. Jo is a graduate in Psychology from Adamoson University, Manila, Philippines and also holds a Certified Hotel Administrator by American Hotel & Motel Association and has more than 16 years of hospitality exposure with reputed brands like Club Mahindra, Habitat Hospitality, in operations, sales & marketing, administration, HR. In the home stay venture, Ms. Jeena Elizabeth, Joe’s wife is rather your host. Jeena is a post graduate in mathematics and hails from Kochi. Late Mr. Joseph Oommen, was a skilled baker of the traditional baking era and his legacy has been followed till date. Mrs. Annamma, Joseph’s wife is from a conservative Syrian Christian family of Kottayam (cetntral Kerala); it is only an added blessing that Annamma has excellent cooking skills especially in Syrian Christian delicacies. And the jovial children Nirmal & Thejas, aged 10 and 7 would certainly add some rhythm and life to the entire ambience at Mistletoe Home. Eco and environmentally friendly practices of waste management, water and energy conservation methods are followed with conscious and committed efforts.
The Concept of Mistletoe Munnar has been germinated through several years of passionate desire to offer a value for money real hospitality experience to discerning travelers both international and domestic . The name Mistletoe Munnar has a lot of significance. Mistletoe as a herb, flower has epical attributes in Greek and European mythology and culture. Mistletoe has been attributed as good omen for love, romance, warm family life and relationships, prosperity from time immemorial especially in the medieval European era. Here in our context, every room in the house has a spacious balcony that faces the Lakchmi and Chokkanmudi peaks of the Kanan Devan Hills. One can visualize and be part of the unending romance between the ever relaxing Lakchmi on semi laying position on the north and the Chokkan Mudi peaks with all his magnificence at her foot steps on east, appreciating her natural curves and lush greenery, silvery streaks of water falls on her large bosom.
The traditional bake oven & cafe is also the main and characteristic place in the home stay, where baking has been a family business for years. Here one could taste freshly made breads, cakes, cookies and experience baking by learning the basic steps of traditional baking – where the fuel has been always firewood or similar natural fuels like coconut shell etc. The guests would have a privileged feeling of staying with a baker’s family and enjoying their simplicity of life and hospitality. The house has been designed by the award winning Kerala artist – Mr. Somu from Aymanam, near Kottayam. His passion for being distinct in whatever he touches has added a lot of flavor and color to Mistletoe. His style is minimalist yet has a taste for detailing especially in concept development , architecture lay out to logo creation. His soft spoken nature with a deep sense of observation in to natural and local surroundings have added a lot of value addition.
As a home stay what one could expect from Mistletoe: The rooms are spacious, well appointed with modern shower rooms and private balcony and entry. We do not offer luxury, only the nature around is luxury. Our Guests could expect a peaceful, homely atmosphere that is clean, hygienic and safe for families, couples, women travelers, solo travelers where the hosts’ family lives in the premises. Mistletoe is also a cozy place for small groups of friends, who look for a quite-undisturbed place for a chill out. Mistletoe is not recommended for late night parties and noisy socializing. Food as a major ingredient during holidays; we could offer neat home cooked food, BBQ, customized to your taste with prior discussions. One cannot expect a typical hotel menu to order especially for major meals. Baking and cooking as an activity is encouraged with prior intimation and with an affordable price.
